Origin of the Current Colossal Wealth of the Catholic Church

The following is an excerpt from chapter 26 of “The Vatican Billions” by Avro Manhattan.

The current spectacular accumulation of wealth by the Catholic Church is a comparatively recent phenomenon. It really was initiated when the See of Peter was deprived of the Papal States by the Italians in 1870. These states included Rome itself and comprised almost one third of the Italian peninsula.

It was then that she began the accumulation of riches according to the success formula of the modern industrial and financial world. The main foundation stones however, were laid by Pope Benedict XV (1914-22) during and after the First World War (1914-18).

He originated today’s Vatican policy that church and papal investments should not be limited by political or religious considerations, but instead should be handled purely on the basis of sound, good, concrete and profitable business.

The Vatican at that time had not the liquid resources which it received a decade later from Fascist Italy, but it had sufficient millions to invest in the world markets. Benedict XV, to prove that he meant business when he promulgated the new policy, promptly invested most of the Vatican’s money.

Where? Shades of the crusading pontiffs! In Turkish Empire Securities! It was the beginning of a road which was to bring the Catholic Church into the ranks of the top billionaire corporations of the twentieth century.

By 1929, the time of the Lateran Treaty, the Vatican’s State treasure had become an official fund. In that same year Mussolini turned over 1,750 million lire (the equivalent at that time of 100 million dollars) to the Vatican as a final settlement of the Roman question.

Pope Pius XI, no less a good businessman than Benedict, invested most of this vast sum in America immediately after the market collapse. The move was a profitable one, for, following the great depression of the thirties, the Church reaped colossal profits when the U.S. economy recovered.

But, while investing largely in the U.S., the Vatican was sufficiently astute to invest a good portion of the Lateran compensation in Italy itself. The results, by any standards, have been staggering. It is estimated that the Holy See presently owns between 10 and 15 per cent of all the stocks and shares registered on the Italian Stock Exchange.

The matter-of-fact British periodical, ‘The Economist’ put it: “It could theoretically throw the Italian economy into confusion if it decided to unload all its shares suddenly and dump them on the market.”

This was confirmed a few years later by the Italian finance minister when, in February 1968, he declared that the Vatican owned shares worth approximately 100 billion lire.

The wealth of the Church, besides becoming an increasing moral embarrassment, had also become a financial dilemma. The Church found herself top-heavy with wealth, not only because of the laborious collection of money derived from thousands of religious, ecclesiastic and lay organisations, but equally because of the skill of top financial brains which, since the Second World War had invested the Vatican’s billions in most parts of the world with dexterity second to none. Their skill, with the help of the global intelligence at their disposal, had truly turned the Vatican millions into billions.

Special Investment Office Created

The accumulation of such colossal riches made the haphazard methods of the past obsolete, indeed, dangerous. The pope was compelled to set up a special Prefecture for Economic Affairs.

The Prefecture, directed mostly by American, French, German and other brains, has to operate mainly outside Italy, since the investments were spread over a global field. The celebrated Jewish house of the Rothschilds – who, incidentally had been lending money to the Vatican since 1831 – came once more to the fore with the buying, selling and amalgamating of millions of shares and other investments on behalf of the Vatican.

Vatican financial operations can trespass into semi-illegality at times because of their diversity and secrecy. Scandal erupted in the eighties to the astonishment of millions of Catholics and the chagrin of many who genuinely thought the Vatican was engaged only in charitable operations.

By and large, however, its investments are well looked after by those financial experts whose experience is second to none! The Vatican’s traditional financial dealers are a mostly non-Catholic fraternity of Protestants, agnostics, non-Christians, Jews and even atheists.

Its traditional financial transactions have been handled for years by the great banking concerns of J. P. Morgan in New York (mostly for American investments), Hambros of London for British investments, and the Swiss Credit Bank of Zurich for European investments – without mentioning the Vatican’s own concerns such as Banco di Roma, Banco Commerciale, Banco Santo Spirito.

Now, it must never be forgotten that all the above form only the “liquid” financial assets of the Holy See. We have entirely excluded the solid properties, real estate, land, industrial and commercial concerns owned and controlled by the Catholic Church in Italy, Spain, Germany, Great Britain, and North, Central and South America. To estimate the actual current values of the Churches tremendous possessions and real estate properties is an impossibility.

It must be remembered that the Vatican – or rather, the Catholic Church – owns thousands upon thousands of churches, cathedrals, monasteries, nunneries and sundry edifices throughout the Western world.

What is the value of the land upon which all these buildings stand, in current money? What is the value of the actual buildings themselves? If one should give modest prices for the humble parish churches and parish halls, what prices would an estate agent give, for instance, for St. Patrick’s Cathedral in New York, Notre Dame in Paris, and St. Peter’s in Rome, to mention only a few?

The claim that such property is not owned by the Catholic Church is like saying that a Communist dictatorship does not own anything because all the property is owned by the people.

When the Catholic Church sells a piece of land or buys one, the bishop as a rule signs the deed, which means his See becomes the owner or receives the money. Whether the transaction is localised to the diocese, or deputised from the national hierarchy or from the Vatican, is basically irrelevant since ultimately it concerns the property of the Catholic Church.

Government Collected Millions for Vatican

In some countries, not only does the Church evade taxation, but the state itself collects taxation on her behalf. This absurdity has been one of the most extraordinary peculiarities of Germany, which “compels” German citizens to pay a “Kirchensteuer” (Church Tax).

It was first inspired by the Weimar Constitution of 1919, and confirmed by the pact between Hitler and the Vatican in their concordat of 1933. The Kirchensteuer was made constitutional in 1949, after the Second World War. The Catholic government – that is the Christian Democrats – not only enforced the church taxation upon an unwilling populace, it put the state machinery at the disposal of the church. Thus the Government collected the tax, enforced its payment, and then handed over the money thus collected to the Church.

Before the Second World War, the German citizens used to pay an average of two or three marks a year. By 1972, the figure rose to between fifty-five and sixty marks.

In Germany, therefore, the Vatican, besides enjoying outstanding financial benefits from its skilful penetration of the giant industrial concerns (as it did in Italy and in the United States), had its coffers replenished with additional millions from the Kirchensteuer, to the tune of some 350 million dollars a year. The scheme being the result of the political Catholicism which dominated the life of post-war Germany for so long.

World’s Biggest Stock Broker

The Catholic Church, therefore, once all her assets have been put together, is the most formidable stockbroker in the world. The ‘Wall Street Journal’ said that the Vatican’s financial deals in the U.S. alone were so big that very often it sold or bought gold in lots of a million or more dollars at one time.

Therefore, the Vatican was, and still is, the most redoubtable wealth accumulator and property owner in existence. No one knows for certain how much the Catholic Church was, or is worth in terms of dollars and other currencies, not even the pope himself.

That is the true situation borne out by a Vatican official who, when asked to make a guess at the Vatican’s wealth today, replied very tellingly, “Only God knows.”

Search history for Jews instances of usury, abuse of power, assimilation, intolerance and abuse of religion to emotionally black mail people’s minds and hearts.

The Jews are the only people in the world who have found hostility in every country in which they settled in any numbers. The big question is – WHY?

Today it is taught in the schools that “Anti-Semitism” began in Germany in the 1930s after which they were deported. What is not studied is the fact that at one time or other the Jews have been expelled from every nation in Europe! When the Jews first began to immigrate to America the early colonialists in New York, Charleston and Savannah tried to ban their entry. Benjamin Franklin pleaded with the members of the Continental Congress to enter a specific ban against Jewish immigration into the U. S. Constitution to bar them for all time to come.- What’s famous man says about the Jews thru out history

Down to -50C: Russians freeze to death as strongest-in-decades winter hits (PHOTOS)

Russia is enduring its harshest winter in over 70 years, with temperatures plunging as low as -50 degrees Celsius. Dozens of people have already died, and almost 150 have been hospitalized.

The country has not witnessed such a long cold spell since 1938, meteorologists said, with temperatures 10 to 15 degrees lower than the seasonal norm all over Russia.

Across the country, 45 people have died due to the cold, and 266 have been taken to hospitals. In total, 542 people were injured due to the freezing temperatures, RIA Novosti reported.

The Moscow region saw temperatures of -17 to -18 degrees Celsius on Wednesday, and the record cold temperatures are expected to linger for at least three more days. Thermometers in Siberia touched -50 degrees Celsius, which is also abnormal for December.

The Emergency Ministry has issued warnings in 15 regions, which have been put on high alert over possible disruptions of communication and power.

Across the country, heat pipelines have broken down due to the cold. In southeastern Russia’s Samara, the cold has broken down many heat pipelines, leaving hundreds of homes without heating, including an orphanage and a rest house. Many schools and kindergartens have been closed for almost a week.

The cold spell, along with snowfalls, has disrupted flights all over the country, and led to huge traffic jams. In the southern city of Rostov-on-Don some highways were closed due to snowfalls over the past two days, triggering a traffic collapse.

More cold in the capital

Over the weekend, meteorologists predict temperatures will plunge even lower in the Moscow region, hitting -25. The Russian capital is also expected to be swept with snow, RIA Novosti reported.

Temperatures have been 7 degrees lower than the norm for five days already, which is considered an anomaly, according to the Meteonovosti.ru website. The cold spell in the Moscow region is expected to continue for at least three more days.

Due to the high humidity, these freezing temperatures will feel even colder than they actually are, meteorologists explained.

The most famous snowstorm in American history, the Blizzard of 1888, has acquired an almost legendary status. Although there have been many heavier snowfalls as well as significantly lower temperatures, the blizzard’s combination of inclement conditions has been unmatched in more than a century.

The U.S. Weather Service defines a blizzard as a storm with winds of more than 35 miles an hour and snow that limits visibility to 500 feet or less. A severe blizzard is defined as having winds exceeding 45 miles an hour, visibility of a quarter mile or less, and temperatures of 10 degrees F or lower.

Nelson Mandela Admitted to Pretoria Hospital

Nelson Mandela 89 years Celebration

South Africa’s former President Nelson Mandela was admitted to a military hospital Saturday for medical tests, though the nation’s president told the public there was “no cause for alarm” over the 94-year-old icon’s health.

The Boy From the Transkei

The rolling green hills of the rural Transkei (see map) is the place Mandela thinks of as home; it is there he has built his retirement house. Growing up in the royal kraal of the Madiba clan, Mandela was groomed to be advisor to the King of Thembus.

“I learned that courage was not the absence of fear, but the triumph over it. The brave man is not he who does not feel afraid, but he who conquers that fear.”~Nelson Mandela

The rest of the world knows him as Nelson Mandela. We, as South Africans, choose to call him Madiba, his Xhosa clan name.

The statement issued by President Jacob Zuma’s spokesman said that Mandela was doing well and was receiving medical care “which is consistent for his age.” The statement offered no other details.

Former president Nelson Mandela‘s hospitalization has left many of his associates in the dark, it was reported on Sunday.Nelson Mandela Foundation spokesman Sello Hatang told City Press he was unaware of Mandela’s admission to a hospital in Pretoria for tests on Saturday.

“They have issued a press release?” he asked.

Mandela’s ex-wife, Winnie Madikizela-Mandela, was also not made been aware of the hospitalisation, United Democratic Movement leader Bantu Holomisa told the newspaper. They had attended a soccer match together.Deputy President Kgalema Motlanthe was to have visited Mandela in Qunu, in the Eastern Cape, but the visit was cancelled at the last minute.

“City Press further understands that the airplane that was supposed to carry Motlanthe to Qunu was reassigned to fly medical personnel to attend to Mandela,” the newspaper wrote.

An SA National Defence Force (SANDF) aircraft crashed in the Drakensberg in bad weather last week.

According to Beeld newspaper, the flight had gone ahead despite the weather, because it was carrying medicine for Mandela.

The SA Air Force has denied the claims.

The presidency said on Sunday it would issue periodic updates on Mandela’s condition. – Sapa

Mandela, who spent 27 years in prison for fighting racist white rule, became South Africa’s first black president in 1994 and served one five-year term. He later retired from public life to live in his village of Qunu, and last made a public appearance when his country hosted the 2010 World Cup soccer tournament.

“We wish Madiba all the best,” Zuma said in the statement, using Mandela’s clan name. “The medical team is assured of our support as they look after and ensure the comfort of our beloved founding president of a free and democratic South Africa.”

While the government sought to reassure South Africans about Mandela’s health, he remains viewed as a father figure to many in this nation of 50 million people. Each hospital trip raises the same worries about the increasingly frail former leader of the African National Congress — that the man who helped bring the nation together is slowly fading away.

In February, Mandela spent a night in a hospital for a minor diagnostic surgery to determine the cause of an abdominal complaint. In January 2011, however, Mandela was admitted to a Johannesburg hospital for what officials initially described as tests but what turned out to be an acute respiratory infection. He was discharged days later.

Mandela contracted tuberculosis during his years in prison. He also had surgery for an enlarged prostate gland in 1985.

While Zuma’s statement offered no further details about who would provide medical attention for Mandela, the nation’s military has taken over caring for the aging leader since the 2011 respiratory infection. At 1 Military Hospital in Pretoria on Saturday night, the facility that previously cared for Mandela in February, everything appeared calm, without any additional security present.

Mac Maharaj, a presidential spokesman, declined to say whether Mandela had been flown by the military from Qunu to Pretoria. He also declined to say what the tests were for.

“It’s quite normal at his age to be going through those tests,” Maharaj told The Associated Press.

Mandela’s hospitalization comes just days after the crash of a military aircraft flying on an unknown mission near Mandela’s rural home in which all 11 onboard were killed.

The plane was flying to a military air base in Mthatha, which is about 30 kilometers (17 miles) north of Qunu. Military officials declined to say whether those on board had any part in caring for Mandela.

Follow the Estelle Ship to Gaza

Follow the Estelle Freedom Boat sailing now to Gaza. We call to all the leaders of the world to take a stand for justice, truth and peace. Israel has placed an illegal blockade in Gaza Palestine with the excuse to stop weapons to enter the besieged Gaza Port.  We wonder who stop Israel from manufacturing weapons of all calibers even nuclear weapons. Who has an eye on Israel?, Why the UN stay silence on the issue of the illegality of the Blockade and why does not take measures to enforce the Resolutions against Israel.
Please Stand for what is right. Now is the time to take a stand for Justice. Palestine need the voices of all the world to end once and for all the Apartheid Entity that has ravaged the land and the lives of millions Palestinians.

Please activists of peace, all the people that belong to the Solidarity Movement do not forget the Mavi Marmara. More than 2 years and justice has not been brought to the victims of that massacre. Keep raising your voices, do not allow tricks, and minus controversies to take away your attention from Palestine. Every time that there is a mission in the making someone from somewhere start a rumor of no importance what so ever to derail the mission. All Palestinians supporters unite in one voice.

Remember Vittorio Arrigoni, Rachel Corrie and the Palestinian Martyrs every time you read the news and you see nothing about Israel crimes in Palestine, it is our moral duty to make the news for Palestine. Every computer it is weapon against the silence.
Hasbaras get paid to create rumors, don’t give attention to them. We already know those tactics, please do not follow it. If you are Palestinian lover, supporter of Justice and peace leave personal vendettas out of the movement.

Gaza situation is unsustainable and needs to be open to the world. Voluntarism is a moral duty that we all humans feel the necessity to express, we have no obligation but only the love for our fellow human family. From my part I send my gratitude and thanks to all the peace activists that leave the comfort of they everyday life to participate in this global effort to free Gaza.

On Sunday , 2012 The Estelle Ship sailed out from Naples to Gaza, Palestine destination. Against all the odds, that the Boat faces, the crew is optimist that this time, they will brake the illegal Israel blockade of Gaza, that has been in place since  2007 with the silence of the leaders of the world, and the grin of the UN block.
A demonstration that assembled several hundred participants marched through the central parts of the city and then collected in the port where Estelle loaded the last items and completed the last paperwork. An unparallelled atmosphere of festivity reigned, and people danced, sang and cheered uninterruptedly. When the Italian harbor board let us load the 300 footballs that had been stored in Athens for the last year the enthusiasm knew no bounds.

In spite of Israeli pressure to stop Estelle from leaving the port the Italian authorities remained unmovable.
On the previous days the Israel prime Minister trying to bully the Free Gaza voyagers issued an statement on their media.

Reports in the Israeli media refer to a statement from Israel’s Foreign Ministry that Israel has been in touch with the governments that have passengers on board the Estelle. It makes the point that no ship is going to be allowed to approach Gaza. The statement does not define what the word “approach” should be taken to mean. As the Estelle is currently in Italy, the statement can be interpreted as a threat to free movement within the EU. Ship to Gaza is protesting against that threat and is expecting the EU governments to do the same. Ship To Gaza

During the days in Naples the ship  protected at all the times. The lessons from the other flotillas still fresh. No saboteurs had found their way to the schooner, but loads of enthusiastic sympathizers did. That Estelle now made out for the last stretch of the 5000 nautic miles from the start in the Baltic Sea does of course not mean that we have reached our goal. The blockade is still there. But the resistance is growing, every hour, every day, every week.

The Estelle  crew is composed of people of different nationalities, Swedes, Norwegians, Finns and Israelis, had stated Dror Feiler on of the spokesmen of The Freedom Flotilla: “This is not an action against the Israeli people, but it is a complaint to the policies of their government”. Gold World Italy

“The entire crew focuses on the failure of the institutions and the international community, which have played an insignificant and marginal in an attempt to solve the problem, merely a “quiet diplomacy”. Dror Feiler said also, “how did this project and what caused them to react: “During and after the attacks on Gaza in 2008 and 2009,  some people in Stockholm, speaking of these events in a small apartment, about six to eight people , decided it was time to stop signing petitions,  and the protests in Sweden, it was time to give up  writing articles and make the event,  the time had come to act, and so we decided to start our project starting to Gaza. ” The crew is determined to complete his expedition, but will not respond to any kind of provocation, we are prepared to face any kind of situation only through the use of nonviolent methods.”

Naples was the last stop on the mainland before heading to the Gaza blockade. The ship left the port on Sunday afternoon while dozens of people greeted the crew and sang songs, while Dror Feiler,  accompanied The Estelle farewell with his saxophone.

The Estelle is an old boat reconstructed ready to sail again thanks to donations from Palestinian’s lovers around the world.

Oboriginals In Australia Speaking Out

Northern Territory: Australian Government Asked To Leave Aboriginal Community

Sarah Keenan, Critical Legal Thinking, 05 September 2012

Aboriginals burn Australian flag during protests in 2012.

Just over five years ago, on 21 June 2007, Australia’s then prime minister John Howard announced that rates of child sex abuse in the country’s Northern Territory aboriginal communities were so high that they constituted a national emergency. Drawing on the federal government’s constitutional power to override Territory legislation, and suspending Australia’s Racial Discrimination Act 1975, Howard led the federal government in rushing through the Northern Territory National Emergency Response Act 2007.  Pushed through parliament in less than four weeks, there was an almost total lack of consultation with the aboriginal communities that were to be affected.
The Act and its associated amending legislation, which quickly became known as ‘the intervention’, introduced a range of racist and highly paternalistic measures to ‘prescribed areas’ of the Northern Territory, all of which were aboriginal communities.
Those measures included a total ban on the possession and consumption of alcohol,
[1] compulsory income management for all welfare recipients (ration cards),
[2] compulsory installation of anti-pornography filters on all public computers as well as obligatory record-keeping of all computer users,
[3] the cutting back of the permit system for entry onto aboriginal land,
[4] the federal government takeover of local services and community stores as well as a ministerial power to suspend all elected Councillors,
[5] the ban on Northern Territory courts from taking customary law into account when dealing with bail applications and sentencing,
[6] and compulsory rent-free five year leases of aboriginal land to the federal government.
[7] As an emergency piece of legislation the Act had a sunset clause of five years.
The intervention was heavily criticized by a wide range of NGOs, activist groups, and by UN Special Rapporteour on the Situation of Human Rights and Fundamental Freedoms of Indigenous People James Anaya.
[8] Despite the increased police powers of surveillance and arrest, the government failed to uncover any evidence that rates of child sex abuse in the Northern Territory were in fact very different from rates of child sex abuse in other Australian jurisdictions.
[9] Yet even with the government’s own statistics showing that there was no ‘national emergency’ concerning child sex abuse in the prescribed communities, the emergency Act remained in force until it reached its five-year sunset clause last month. The Act has essentially been replaced by the ten-year Stronger Futures in the Northern Territory Act 2012, which came into force on 16 July (the day the 2007 Act ceased) and ensures the continuation of most of the measures begun under the 2007 Act.
The compulsory leases of aboriginal land to the government met with significant aboriginal critique and resistance, and were the only intervention provisions to be challenged in Australia’s High and Federal Courts (in Shaw v Minister for Families, Housing, Community Services and Indigenous Affairs [2009] FCA 1397 and Reggie Wurridjal, Joy Garlbin and the Bawinanga Aboriginal Corporation v The Commonwealth of Australia and The Arnhem Land Aboriginal Trust [2009] HCA 2). The government took out 64 compulsory five-year leases around the Territory in 2007. Its reasons for wanting the leases were always ambiguous, generally coming back to a need for ‘security of tenure’ while the government brought physical improvements and provided services to these areas.
Whether the government really needed such security in order to provide essential services is dubious considering that the government does not demand leases of non-aboriginal residential areas in order to provide them with running water, health clinics and other services, but at any rate – as the video below shows – standards of living, housing conditions and social services have not significantly improved in the Territory’s prescribed areas over the past five years, and has in some places become worse. Most of the government’s compulsory five-year leases expired on August 17, and although 34 of the 64 affected communities have already ‘voluntarily’ agreed to grant the government new 40-year leases, the community of Amoonguna is refusing to sign any further leases, and has written to the government asking it to remove all its workers by the end of this month or face charges of trespass. The government is yet to respond.

Germans Forced to Keep Silent, for a Guilty Past? Günter Grass Speaks The Truth

Posted on April 19, 2012 by Marivel Guzman

By Henryk M. Broder, Original Article published on April 04, 2012 by Welt Online

Günter Grass has always had a problem with Jews, but as clearly as in a new “poem” entitled “What must be said” about Israel and Iran, he has never said it.

Günter Grass has written a poem. That apparently It will appear next Wednesday in two major daily newspapers at the same time. The “La Repubblica” and the “Sueddeutsche Zeitung”.

The poem reads: “What must be said,” and begins with these words:

“Why I am silent, conceal too long …”

The impartial reader might get the idea that Grass would finally explain why he has concealed his stint with the Waffen-SS as long. But this is not the case. Over this period of his life, the poetic moralist is also long. This time, he is concerned more about the very survival:

“Why I am silent, silent about too long, what is obvious and practiced in simulation games, was at the end as survivors, we are footnotes at best.”

Grass will no longer remain silent. What is the cause of the explosion logorrhoeischen? The “alleged in the first strike,” an unnamed country that is threatening Iran, which in turn is governed by a “bullies”.

“But why do I say to myself to call that other country by name, in the years since – though secret – a growing nuclear capabilities available but is out of control and access to any scrutiny”

Grass has prescribed silence, because he does not want to risk being called “anti-Semite” branded.

“This general concealment of facts, which my silence subordinate, I find incriminating lie, as well as coercion, punishment is promised if he is flouted, the verdict, anti-Semitism is” familiar. “

Verbal foreplay to a taboo

So it is the usual prelude to a verbal taboo, which is justified by the responsibility of the poet, to prevent a catastrophe. For Grass, sounds like this:

“But now, because in my country of innate crimes that are without comparison, time caught up to time and will be asked to explain, again and purely commercial basis, if declared with nimble lip as reparation, another U-boat to Israel to be delivered, whose specialty is to destructive warheads can control everything there, where the existence of a single atomic bomb is unproven, but wants to be a legend of evidence, I say what needs to be said. “

Grass has always been prone to delusions of grandeur, but now he is nuts completely. Quite activities composing verses fragile busy, he has not noticed many of the speeches of the Iranian president in which he speaks of the need for the “cancer” that has occupied Palestine, to remove from the region. Because that is just “Maulheldentum” which one is “unproven” must not be taken seriously, as the existence of a single bomb until it is used. In the case of Grass would mourn for the victims and donate to the survivors consolation, because he feels the land of Israel “connected”.

Has always been a problem with Jews

“But why I kept quiet until now? As I said, my background, which is never subject to stigma tilgendem forbid, that fact will marked as truth the land of Israel, whom I am connected and remain unreasonable.”

Grass breaks his silence, because he would not again be guilty because he was “tired of the hypocrisy of the West” and hopes that one should free themselves from the enforced silence, the cause of danger to renounce violence, encourage and insist that a unhindered and permanent control of the Israeli nuclear potential and the Iranian nuclear facilities by an international authority of the governments of both countries will be allowed.

While Israel a “nuclear potential” function, the Iranians have only “nuclear facilities” which are probably the generation of electricity. The cause of the “obvious danger” is Israel that is outside the control, while Iran is doing nothing better, than to open its “nuclear facilities” international supervision.

Grass has always had a problem with Jews, but as clear as in this “poem” he has never articulated it. In an interview with “Spiegel Online” in October 2001, he said, as he imagines the solution of the Palestine question. “Israel must acknowledge not only occupied areas also the seizure of Palestinian land and its Israeli occupation is a crime, the need. not only stop, but be undone. versa Otherwise there is no one peace. “

Tel Aviv and Haifa are giving up

This was neither more nor less than an invitation to Israel, not only Nablus and Hebron, Tel Aviv and Haifa as well give up. Just as Hamas and Hezbollah makes no distinction between the Grass in 1948 and the 1967 “occupied territories”, for it is “the occupation of Palestinian land and its Israeli settlement of a criminal act.” This is also the Iranian president.

Ten years later, in summer 2011, received the Grass Israeli journalist Tom Segev for an interview. Segev is fluent in German, so we chatted light-hearted and without a translator and a half hours about everything, even the reactions to his novel “Peeling the Onion”. The debate was for him “very painful” was that they had placed under his command, he had volunteered for the Waffen-SS. “The truth is that I was drafted, as thousands of young people my age.”

Wanted as a knowledge-Segev, why the Holocaust is found in the “onion” only in passing, said Grass: “The madness and crime expressed not only in the Holocaust and did not stop with the end of the war of eight million German soldiers of the Russians have been arrested, have survived two million. The remainder was liquidated. “

Haunted by guilt and shame

You had no qualified mathematician to count on Grass’ numbers game to end: Six million German soldiers were liquidated by the Russians. That actually came about three million German soldiers in Soviet captivity, many of whom about 1.1 million survived, does not matter. Because grass is not about numbers, but a number six million. That’s the number to which it always. The Lucky Number German. Six million dead Jews on the one hand, six million dead German prisoners on the other hand, the bottom line is a clean zero.

Grass is the prototype of the resulting anti-Semite who is kind to the Jews. Of guilt and shame and pursued simultaneously driven by the desire to charge history, he now takes to disarm the “cause of the apparent risk.”

The Germans will never forgive the Jews, what they have done to them. Thus in the Middle East peace comes at last, and even Grass is his peace of mind, Israel is “history”. So says the Iranian president, and which the poet dreams of onion skinning.

Welt’s Editor’s note: An earlier version of the article it had said that the “New York Times” would print the poem. This was not the case.

Akashma News Editor: The article expresses the solely opinion of the Author. This article was first published in Welt Online in German Language. Was translated using google translate.

Henryk M. Broder is the classic Israeli propagandist and protector of Israel crimes. Gunter Grass a writer that have exposed without reserve Israel impunity have risked his career. Anybody that dare to write against Israel it is branded as Anti Semitic, the term used trying to silence anybody that speaks against Israel Crimes.
In Europe it is illegal to speaks against the Holocaust, so for a writer to come into the open with a poem of this nature it is willing to risk his liberty or his life.
There is nothing more honorable than speak the Truth. For long the Editorials of the Main Media Outlets have been complicit with Israel, not because there was no Truth to tell, but because the money paid to the Big Newspapers have been always more important than the Truth, but lately many writers have come clean in their opinions on Israel daring to tell the truth, risking their jobs and their reputation. The money it has been always an obstacle for the truth.

Ireland is the EU’s most pro-Palestinian member

Posted on August 10, 2011 by Marivel Guzman

An official in the Israeli Foreign Ministry described Ireland as “the most anti-Israel member state of the European Union.” They may well be right, although I doubt most Irish people or the Irish government would like to hear/read that. They’d prefer it to be phrased more positively.

“For many years Ireland has been the most anti-Israel member state of the European Union. Foreign minister Martin was probably eager to push this through given the likelihood that there will soon be a change of government in Ireland.”

A few years ago I was driving down I-95 from DC to Florida when I entered North Carolina. It was the first time I’d ever been in the state and I was struck by the billboards I saw from the highway declaring North Carolina to be “The most military-friendly state in the union.”

Those signs could be the model for how Ireland would like to be known when it comes to its Middle East policy: ‘The most Palestinian friendly state in the union.’ The European Union, of course.

That Israeli official was commenting following Ireland’s recent decision to upgrade the status of the Palestinian delegation to Ireland to a mission. Israel views this decision negatively and fears that other EU states will follow, providing a disincentive for the Palestinians to engage in negotiations.

As was pointed out on Twitter on Wednesday (@jonihle) it took “Ireland 45 yrs to allow UN-recognized Israel to open an embassy in Dublin.” Yet the Palestinians will have theirs before they even have any form of UN-recognized state. And I fully expect that before it’s appropriate to provide full recognition to any future Palestinian state, Ireland will have already done so.

This week’s move is more symbolic than anything else. The most substantive change is that the head of the Palestinian delegation will be known as an Ambassador. He will present his credentials to the President, as all other ambassadors to.

So, it’s symbolic, but it’s also indicative. At a time when there are “heartening trends” in the always dispiriting Middle East, the Irish government has plunged into the situation to change the balance. Yes Ireland’s a small nation, but it is also a member of the European Union, which makes this small nation’s actions and words on the situation more weighty than if we were outside one of the key blocs in global politics.

This wasn’t just clumsy either. Irking Israel and siding with the Palestinians is part of a long-established pattern for the Irish government.

Last summer when Irish and other pro-Palestinian activists were trying to run Israel’s blockade of Gaza, the Irish government abandoned all pretense of its cherished “neutrality” to side with those who consider Israeli sovereignty and security a non-issue. Foreign Minister Micheál Martin was particularly strident in his demands that Israel cave in to the flotilla’s blackmail.

That same government that was so smug in its condemnation of Israel last June is now at death’s door, although their current troubles have nothing to do with foreign policy. The new government coming at the end of February will not mean change in Ireland’s attitude to Israel, which it rates just below North Korea in rogue status.

I’d like to say that the government is out of step with the people on this matter, but I don’t think they are. The usual protest groups and activists {Photo} are more strident, but probably reflecting a majority view. There is a great sympathy with the Palestinian people, which I can understand to a great extent. They have it very hard.

Yet the prevailing view – among the people, the media and the government – of ‘Israelis bad, Palestinians good’ is too simplistic and far from accurate. The Israelis would dearly love to live in peace with all their neighbors. Israel would like peace, trust, cooperation and trade with all the neighbors.

Yet some of those neighbors are still hell bent on seeing Israel destroyed. Many Palestinians would like to see Israel destroyed. Yet in Ireland there seems to be almost no understanding of the Israelis’ predicament, their fears and their demand that they be treated as every other UN member state is treated.

For the Irish, unfortunately, being the Palestinians’ best friend is more important than taking seriously the rights of a fellow small member of the United Nations.

44 Weeks of Pro-Palestinian Protest in Adelaide and not a Word in Print

Posted on August 10, 2011 by Marivel Guzman

by Margaret Cassar on August 4, 2011

Adelaide is the capital of South Australia. It’s a sprawling city; Adelaide’s metropolitan region is more than twice the size of Gaza but with a smaller population. Gaza has 1.7 million people compared with Adelaide’s 1.2 million. However there are much more significant differences. Here we move freely in and out of our city and country, trade with everyone, have ready access to water, food, medicines, hospitals, medical care and education. No-one has ever imprisoned our whole population and then bombed us. Yet in spite of our differences and the vast 13,000 km distance between our cities a growing number of people in Adelaide are developing a sense of solidarity with the people of Palestine.

As part of our contribution to the international BDS movement, over 10 months ago the Australian Friends of Palestine Association held the first Adelaide Seacret (Israeli cosmetic company) protest. Each week an ever increasing number of pro-Palestinian protesters have demonstrated in front of the Myer Center shopping complex which hosts the Seacret kiosk. Our latest You Tube shows that despite strong opposition and varying intimidating tactics from Zionist sympathizers, we are determined to continue to educate the people of Adelaide about Palestine and encourage them to boycott Israeli products.

Our first action was held on October 8th 2010 and we were fortunate to have Tariq Ali present. The next few weeks saw numbers drop but our persistence paid off as people shopping in the Mall started to ask if they could join the protesters. The word spread. From the initial dozen protesters there are now consistently approximately three dozen protesters in the Mall every week with the average numbers for every month increasing. The following You Tube shows a not uncommon scenario where a group of young teenage boys just passing by were inspired to join in.

Our aim with these protests was to educate Adelaide shoppers about the human rights violations inflicted every day upon the Palestinian and to inform them about the current boycott, divestment and sanctions (BDS) movement plus show shoppers in the Mall how they could boycott Israeli goods. Every week we see more and more evidence that a city like Adelaide not only needs to hear the truth about Palestine but in general wants to hear factual information about the conflict in the Middle East.

Hundreds of people have stopped to talk to us about the situation in Palestine. Most are genuinely interested, some want to argue the point and some want to abuse us. However it is obvious that, particularly since “Operation Cast Lead”, there are many people in Adelaide who feel compassion for the people of Palestine. These Seacret protests are tapping into a growing disquiet among Australians about the human rights abuses in Palestine and the complicity of our government in supporting a military occupation that causes so much suffering. An interesting aspect to these 44 weeks of protesting in the Mall has been the amount of intimidating behaviour from all manner of groups. Probably the easiest to deal with has been our apparent interest to photographers as most weeks we are filmed both openly and covertly by at least 5 people. Occasionally we are told the photographs would be used in a court case against us. A common comment was that we were being photographed so that photos could be sent back to “friends in Israel”.

Abusive behaviour towards the protesters from seemingly random people passing by is becoming more threatening and plumbing new depths in sexist and racist remarks. I use the words “seemingly random” because most weeks there seems to be a common theme behind the abuse, eg just recently all commentary mentioned that we were Australians and not interested in other people’s problems. It all starts to look a bit scripted and rehearsed. Initially words like “misguided” were yelled at us now it’s more likely to include an expletive and the attractive female protesters have been subject to objectionable comments ranging from the patronizing (“Go home to your husband”) to the sleazy (“You can lick my Zionist balls”). None of this reflects well on our detractors.

Most worrying has been the revelation that Christian Zionists play a powerful role on the ground in countries like Australia in stifling debate on the Israel-Palestine conflict. Our Christian Zionist counter-protesters have used an arsenal of techniques to scare us away from the Mall. They turn up in groups and loudly proclaim a most un-Christian hatred and condemnation of the protesters and many other sections of the Australian community. This particular group usually arrives with Israeli flags, soap boxes, a full size cross on wheels and loud speakers to stridently broadcast their repugnant views to hapless shoppers in the Mall. Some verbally abuse the protesters and all promote a similar message, “You are doing the devil’s work and you need to repent or you will end up in hell.” Protesters have been called murderers and we have witnessed certain protesters being targeted in an attempt to provoke violent reactions.

Residents of Adelaide are not surprised by this but it would appear that peaceful pro-Palestinian protests have zero interest for our media. As you saw in the earlier You Tube of our actions for Weeks 41 and 42 the Seacret protest group is highly visible as the protesters wear bright green T-shirts, hold large placards, banners and Palestinian flags. Though we have attracted the attention of tens of thousands of passers-by, engaged hundreds of people in discussion about Palestine and given out over 20,000 leaflets, we are apparently invisible to local mainstream media. In 10 months not one word has been printed in our only local daily newspaper, News Limited’s The Advertiser. Apple growers from the Adelaide Hills rightly received considerable space for one of their protests. Ditto for teachers and truck drivers. For me the interesting story is why nearly a year of peaceful protests is not worth one word of print. It would seem pro-Palestinian activists may only be seen in the media if they can be portrayed as violent and in conflict with the police.

It has also been interesting to see that while Adelaide’s mainstream media has deliberately ignored the protests other elements of society have paid us lots of attention. For example when the protests first started there would be approximately 15 management and security personnel watching a dozen protesters hold placards and hand out leaflets. Members of SAPOL (South Australian Police) quickly realized we were law-abiding and at all times the police have treated protesters with courtesy.

Australian politicians in the main are stridently pro-Israel and as we saw in the recent Marrickville council elections it is a brave politician indeed who dares endorse the BDS movement. However if they attended one of our protests they may be surprised to see that the issue of Israel’s treatment of the Palestinians does resonate with Australian voters and that they could safely take a more principled stand on this issue.
